How to measure your truck bed before you order

Five measurements we need for a topper or camper quote — and the two that people usually get wrong.

Toppers and campers are built to the bed, not to the badge on the tailgate. Two trucks with the same name can have different bed lengths, rail heights and tie-down points depending on year, cab and trim. Before we quote, we ask for a few measurements and photos.

The five measurements

  1. Inside bed length at the floor, bulkhead to closed tailgate.
  2. Inside width between the wheel arches.
  3. Width across the top of the bed rails, outside to outside.
  4. Rail height above the bed floor.
  5. Distance from the rear of the cab to the bed bulkhead.

The two that people get wrong

Bed length is often measured at the top of the rails instead of the floor, which adds several centimetres. And width is measured between the wheel arches only — we also need the rail-to-rail width, because that is where a topper sits.

Send photos too

A straight side photo, a rear photo with the tailgate down and a photo of the bed rails help us confirm tie-down points and any accessories already fitted. Send them with your measurements on WhatsApp or email and we will come back with a written quote.
